Director General of the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Dr. Sabitu Shanono

The Director General of the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Dr. Sabitu Shanono has commended the state government for the integration of people living with HIV/AIDS into the basic health care provision fund for the attainment of universal health coverage.

Dr. Shanono made the commendation while receiving the Executive Secretary of Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Halima Mijinyawa in his office.

The Director General said the integration of HIV/AIDS patients into the program was timely as the HIV/AIDS response has declined world wide.

In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Halima Mijinyawa said the agency would enrol 553 people living with HIV/AIDS to enable access free medical care.

She explained that they were at SACA to inform the DG on the selection process of eligible beneficiaries as well as the criteria for the enrollment.

Dr. Halima noted that the basic health provision fund is a federal government intervention that fall under the equity program of contributory healthcare scheme.

The Executive Secretary added that, enrollees of the basic health provision fund would enjoy free healthcare services such as pregnant women, elderly, poorest of the poor and people with disabilities.
