Senate has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the recommendations of the Senate adhoc committee on security challenges in the country.
The Senate made the charge sequel to a motion by Senator Bello Nandiya representing Katsina south senatorial district.
Senator Mandiya while presenting his motion expressed great concern that recent reports by notable media organisations of both local and international said more than three hundred school children are still missing on the friday attack to science secondry school Kankara in Katsina state
He further stressed that like the other incidents of school children abduction that took place in Chibok and Dapchi, if no immediate action is taken to rescue Kankara school boys, their fate may be sealed in the hands of terrorists.
Many senators who spoke on the issue expressed sadness over the situation, Senator Muhammad Sani Musa who seconded the motion said this issue of insecurity has galvanized the entire northern part of the country.
He gave examples of similar incidences that happened yesterday in Niger state where a pastor was killed in his house, the abduction of Hakimi of Yakina along with APC Youth leader.
He said the president should give new blood to handle the security issue as the current service chiefs did their best, others should be given the opportunity to serve the country by injecting new strategies and ideas to takle the issue of insecurity in Nigeria.
Senator James Manager in his submission reminded the Senate that constitutionally the senate did all what they are required to do, what remain is for the executive to implement the recommendations of the Senate on insecurity in Nigeria.
Contributing on the issue, Senator Abdullahi Adamu believed that the leadership should take a proactive measures to ensure the situation is under control, as much as been said on the issue, but nothing changes.
He suggested an adhoc committee comprising both parties to review the situation of engagement with the executive but was rejected by the house.
Commenting on the issue, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan believed that parliament should not get tired of talking of what affect people.
He further emphasized the need to continue talking and engaging the executive Arm so that the problems can be solved, saying protecting the interest of Nigerians is the work of people’s representatives and keeping mute will not save the situation from deteriorating.
The Senate however rejected the prayer of the motion to summon the service chief again on the issue.
