Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Kogi State says lack of adequate testing for COVID-19 is putting doctors and other health workers in the state at great risk.
NMA chairman in the state, Dr Kabir Zubair confirmed this to newsmen in Lokoja.
He disclosed that so far just one sample had being sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for test by the state which returned negative.
The NMA Chairman noted that the development had triggered agitation from members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), who are among the first to attend to suspected cases.
Dr Zubair said no confirmed case has been reported in Kogi State till date, but a number of suspected cases have been attended to at FMC Lokoja of which members of ARD are among the first to attend to these patients and might be exposed to COVID-19.
He explained that FMC Lokoja was the only functional tertiary health institution in the State attending to a wide range of patients, stressing that the danger of being exposed to patients with COVID-19 is a major source of worry
The NCDC had on May 18 revealed that Kogi and Cross River states have the lowest figures of samples tested since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, as the two states were yet to record any confirmed case.
