ZSUBEB Tasks Stakeholders On Sustainable School To Farm Initiative

Zamfara state government has reiterated its commitment to the provision of quality education as a panacea for combating insecurity by declaring a state of emergency in education.

The State Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Zainab lawal Gummi made this known at the Agric Show organized by the State Universal Basic Education Board ZSUBEB to assess the implementation of the 2018/2019 school to farm programme held in Gusau.

Hajiya Zainab Gummi said Practical agriculture was given much emphasis in Zamfara state so that learners can acquire entrepreneurship skills to become self-reliant

She added that the programme would improve the quality of teaching and learning of pre-vocational studies in primary schools which was the bedrock of every education system.

In a remark, the Executive Chairman Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu Maradun, said introducing the school farm program was aimed at boosting basic education in schools.

Abubakar Maradun noted that the practice of Agriculture increases food production and school-feeding in the communities which can guard against hunger and famine, bringing food security, and good nutrition as part of the aspirations of the SDG No.2.

He also said the Board procured and distributed farm tools to 27 selected schools each in 2018 and 2019 for the grassroots implementation of the programme.

The Executive Chairman called on stakeholders to be steadfast in ensuring the sustainability of the school to farm initiative to improve the entrepreneurship development of pupils.

Speaking earlier, the permanent member I, Alhaji Abubakar A. Maradun said, agricultural skills were the skill for survival and by extension for self-reliance adding that, it would provide environmental protection skills, handling animals, farm chemicals, and farm implements among others.

He also mentioned some challenges that have become stumbling blocks toward the sustainability of the programme.
