Kaduna Govt Spends N1bn On Acute Malnutrition Programs

Emir of Zazzau MAL Ahmed Nuhu bamalli says the emirate is ready to support the health sector by educating nursing mothers on the significance of exclusive breastfeeding.

The Emir stated this while receiving officials of the National Orientation Agency NOA, UNICEF and Kaduna State Ministry of Health to mark the sensitisation campaign on exclusive breastfeeding at his palace in Zaria.

MAL Ahmed Nuhu bamalli stressed the need for pregnant women to imbibe the culture of attending antenatal care to reduce maternal mortality rate.

He assured health experts that the emirate remain committed to supporting their activities to achieve desired objective.

Earlier, nutrition specialist from UNICEF Kaduna, Madam Chinweri Ezefa said the UNICEF was ready to partner with traditional institutions, and religious leaders to promote advocacy campaigns on exclusive breastfeeding and reduce towards maternal mortality rate across the state.

Also, the State Director, National Orientation Agency Kaduna state Mal ZUBAIRU Galadima soba said they were in the palace to brief the council members on the efforts put in place to enlighten and organise community dialogue to household, pregnant, and nursing women on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding.

According to him, exclusive breastfeeding improves the infant’s brain and other parts of the body.

In a related development Kaduna state government has spent over one billion naira on community management over acute malnutrition programs.

The director of nutrition, Kaduna state Primary Health Care Board Mr, Adams stated during the advocacy campaign visit to the Emir.

He said the state government would continue to take necessary steps to reduce malnutrition across the state.

Also the Technical expert and UNICEF consultant on nutrition Mal SANI hassan pointed out that two million children benefited from the malnutrition programs.

Mal SANI hassan said twenty-seven per cent of nursing mothers are not practising exclusive breastfeeding exercises in the state.
