NUJ President Charges Journalists To Uphold Virtue Of Patriotism

National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists-NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo has charged journalists to uphold the virtue of patriotism in their reportage.

He gave the charge at the NUJ Kaduna Council award and lecture day ceremony held in Kaduna.

Comrade Chris Isiguzo stressed the need for journalists to imbibe the habit of setting positive agenda for national discourse, aimed at addressing the myriads of challenges bedeviling the country.

The National President reminded journalists on the need to hold politicians accountable by ensuring that they fulfill their campaign promises, and avoid falling prey to the antics of propagating fake news and hate speeches.

Earlier, Chairman of Kaduna Council of the Union, Hajiya Asma’u Halilu explained that the event was organised to enlighten members on how to report elections and crises professionally during electioneering period.

She urged journalists in the State to remain neutral and apolitical in the discharge of their duties.

In his presentation, the guest lecturer, Mallam Ahmed Balarabe Sa’id urged journalists to be socially responsible to the society in reporting election matters.

The theme of the lecture was-Media role in Political Campaigns, Election and Crisis Management’.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to individuals and corporate organisations.
