Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited says its gas transportation network remains fully available to support gas deliveries to power generating stations across the country.
The company maintains that there are no transportation-related constraints within the network operated by its subsidiary, the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited, that could account for the current decline in electricity generation.
In a statement issued in Abuja by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, NNPC Limited said gas production volumes had recorded about ten per cent growth in 2026 so far, in line with the Federal Government’s gas development and monetisation agenda.
The clarification follows a statement by the Nigerian Independent System Operator on November 5, 2026, which attributed the decline in electricity generation partly to limited gas availability and reduced water inflows to hydroelectric power stations.
NNPC Limited, however, explained that the availability of gas transportation infrastructure should be distinguished from gas production, commercial supply arrangements and actual deliveries to individual power plants.
It noted that a comprehensive assessment of the electricity generation shortfall should also consider the operational readiness of generating units, maintenance schedules and actual gas offtake by power stations.
The company called for a coordinated review of operational data by gas suppliers, transporters, power generators and NISO to identify specific challenges and develop appropriate interventions.
NNPC Limited reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, reliable and efficient gas supply and transportation services to support improved electricity generation across the country.
