The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun moves to harmonize its structures at the grassroots as the political tempo builds ahead of the 2027 general elections,
The party’s State Working Committee (SWC) on Monday met with Local Government Council Chairmen and Local Government Party Chairmen at the party Secretariat in Jalingo, in what party insiders described as a strategic session to forge a united front.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Taraba State chapter and Chairman of Kurmi LGA, Hon. Moses Maihankali, said the engagement was centered on synergy and teamwork.
According to him, the party leadership charged council chairmen and party chairmen to operate as one formidable team at the local government level.
“This is a critical time in the life of any political party. The essence is to put our house in order before going into the political battlefield. Our goal is to win, not to lose,” Maihankali said.
Beyond party politics, the ALGON Chairman spoke on governance and security, commending the State Government’s swift response to the recent security breach in Karim-Lamido.
He lauded Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas for designating Karim-Lamido as an area of security concern and ordering the emergency construction of six access roads to open up vulnerable communities.
On campaigns, Maihankali called for issue-based and violence-free politics, reminding youths that Taraba State has a law prohibiting thuggery.
“Politics is a game. There must be a winner and a loser. We don’t want abusive language and hate speech. That has been our consistent message to the teeming youths,” he said.
On development in his own local government, Maihankali offered assurance to the people of Kurmi that the long-awaited Kurmi road project is back on track.
He said,Contractors have been mobilized back to site adding that, they were already working before heavy rains stalled progress.
He therefore assured that, before the end of this year, substantial work will be seen on the road.
