The Kano State House of Assembly has passed a bill seeking to amend the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to provide for the establishment of state police.

The bill was passed during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Ismail-Falgore.

The Speaker said lawmakers considered and passed the bill after deliberating on Clauses One to 26 at the Committee of the Whole House.

He explained that the passage was in line with the powers conferred on the Assembly under Section 9(2) of the 1999 Constitution.

The proposed amendment seeks to provide a constitutional framework for establishing a state police service and address related matters.
