Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) has disowned a viral video allegedly showing a man in its First Aid Group uniform discussing plans to acquire rifles and travel to Enugu.
The organisation’s National Chairman, Sheikh Bala Lau made this known at a national seminar and workshop organised to train JIBWIS social media influencers on combating fake news, disinformation and malinformation.
Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, urged security agencies to identify, apprehend and interrogate the individual to establish the circumstances surrounding the video.
He said sharing unverified information contradicted the teachings of the Holy Quran, which emphasise verifying information before disseminating it.
The chairman also declared that JIBWIS had never associated with terrorists or criminal elements, stressing its zero tolerance for criminality.
He warned against attempts to damage the organisation’s reputation, citing its longstanding commitment to peace, unity, justice and religious harmony across Nigeria.
The National Secretary, Sheikh Kabiru Haruna Gombe, said the workshop would prepare the organisation’s digital advocates for the 2027 election campaigns by strengthening their commitment to verified information and professional reporting.
He also urged Nigerians to pray for hitch-free campaigns and elections across the country.
Similarly, the Chairman of the JIBWIS Council of Ulamah, Sheikh Dr Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo, stressed that accuracy, fairness and truthfulness must guide every message published in the organisation’s name.
