The Board of Trustees of the Zuru Emirate Development Society (ZEDS) has dissolved its National Executive Committee, led by retired Air Vice Marshal Bala Salau, with immediate effect.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Board of Trustees chaired by the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, at his palace in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
In a statement by the Sadaukin Zuru, Abdullahi Idris, the Emirate Council attributed the dissolution to what it described as the leadership’s ineffectiveness and lukewarm attitude towards peace, unity, development and security across the emirate.
The council said it found no record of significant contributions by the leadership to education, economic development and infrastructure since it assumed office in 2022.
It also accused the dissolved leadership of distancing itself from the people by operating mainly from Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos and Kano, instead of maintaining regular contact with communities across the emirate.
According to the statement, the Emirate Council further observed that the leadership failed to maintain regular consultations with community leaders and other stakeholders to complement government efforts in providing critical infrastructure and addressing security challenges.
The council has appointed Alhaji Yusuf Wade as the new National President of ZEDS, with a mandate to reposition the society and strengthen its contribution to the development of the emirate.
The statement said the new leadership would focus on infrastructure development, monthly contributions from indigenes across the country and engagement with mining companies on corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Alhaji Yusuf Wade is a retired education administrator who served as a Director in the Ministry of Education. He also served as Secretary of a 16-member committee of professors chaired by Professor Attahiru Jega on educational improvement.
Those who attended the meeting included Major General (Senator) Muhammad Magoro, Galadiman Zuru; Lieutenant General Ishaya Bamaiyi, Uban Yakin Zuru; Justice Danlami Zama Senchi, Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal; members of the Emirate Council, representatives of the five chiefdoms, local government chairmen and district heads.
