Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Zamfara State Command, has arrested a fifty-eight-year-old man, Emmanuel Okonkwo, over alleged illegal dealings with cannabis, tramadol, diazepam and other controlled substances.
The suspect was arrested on September 10, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m. in his shop at Bakin Tasha area of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of the state.
The Head of Public Relations of the Command, ASCI Umar Mohammad, disclosed this while parading the suspect along other suspects in Gusau the Zamfara State Capital.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that, the suspect had operated a chemist shop in Birnin Magaji for more than twenty years.
He said the suspect had confessed to conspiring with two other persons, identified as Yellow and Sadiq, who are currently at large, to deal in hard substances.
Items recovered from the suspect include 112 packs of cannabis, 1,160 tablets of Exol 5, 14 sachets of tramadol and 133 tablets of Diazepam D10.
The NSCDC said the suspect had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further investigation and necessary action.
Meanwhile, the Command has arrested nine persons over alleged criminal conspiracy, vandalism, mischief and theft of roofing sheets from Tsageru Primary School in Tsafe Local Government Area.
Umar Mohammed explained that, the case was reported by the Educational Secretary of Tsafe Local Government Area, Abdulrahman Aliyu.
The Command said the principal suspect, fifty-five-year-old Haruna Amadu of Tsageru village, was arrested on September 8, 2026, at about 3 p.m., following which investigations led to the arrest and identification of eight other suspects.
The suspects are alleged to have conspired to remove roofing materials from the school without the authorisation of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, ZSUBEB.
The Command said the suspects also attempted to persuade the district and village heads to allow them access to the school property, but the traditional leaders reportedly rejected the request and advised them against the action.
