The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has flagged off its campaign in the Daura Senatorial Zone of Katsina State, reiterating its call for the restoration of fuel subsidies, reopening of the country’s land borders and waiver of student loans, among other measures aimed at providing economic relief to citizens.

Addressing party supporters at a grand rally in Daura, Chairman of the ADC Campaign Council, Alhaji Surajo Aminu-Makera, said the proposed policies would stimulate agricultural and industrial growth and create a more favourable environment for economic recovery.

“If ADC takes over government at the center, our first pronouncement will be the restoration of fuel subsidy, reopening of land borders and a series of policies that will provide economic relief on the long-suffering citizens of this country.

“Fuel subsidy removal has put a strain on agricultural and industrial production. MSMEs are struggling to remain in business, money that should go into production now goes to fuel, tax, and inflated prices of goods and services. This not good for the economy, it affects production, it leads to job losses, it increases poverty”, Makera lamented.

He said if given the chance, ADC will roll out series of policies and reforms that will stimulate economic growth through sustainable job creation in the agricultural and industrial sectors, and invest in critical infrastructure such as power, ICT and road networks.

Makera, who was represented at the occasion by a party chieftain, Aliyu Mohammed Kurfi, stressed the importance of unity, discipline and sustained grassroots mobilisation as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

In his remarks, the ADC senatorial candidate for Daura Zone, Alhaji Sani Lawal-Garki, said ADC was presenting itself to Nigerians as a political alternative committed to policies aimed at improving the economy, strengthening national security and restoring hope among citizens.

He said the party’s position on the restoration of fuel subsidy, reopening of land borders and waiving of student loans was part of a “broader policy direction intended to ease economic pressure on ordinary Nigerians and restoring public confidence in governance”.

On education, Garki maintained that the party’s proposed waiving of student loans would provide relief to young Nigerians and help ensure that financial difficulties do not become a major barrier to access to higher education.

He said he will also accord priority to ADC’s policy direction on security, particularly as banditry creeps into Kankia, Kusada and some other parts of Daura Senatorial zone which he blamed on “lack of political will” by the ruling party” to deal decisively with the menace.

He maintained that security remains fundamental to economic development, noting that farmers, traders, businesses and other economic actors could not operate effectively in an environment where citizens feel unsafe.

In his remarks, a chieftain of the party, Alhaji Lawal Batagarawa, appealed to voters in the zone to resist inducement an vote based on their conscience while urging ADC supporters to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots and ensure that the party’s message reaches communities across the zone.

He said the presentation of flags to Senatorial, Federal House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates formally marks the commencement of the party’s grassroots campaign, tasking supporters to take the ADC message to every ward, polling unit and community across the senatorial district.
