Forum of Education Secretaries in Kaduna State has highlighted improvements recorded in basic education under the administration of Governor Uba Sani between 2023 and 2026.
The forum, which represents the 23 Local Government Education Authorities in the state, said the improvements covered school infrastructure, teaching and learning materials, teacher development and school management.
Presenting a statement at a press conference, the forum said about 3,267 classrooms were constructed or rehabilitated, alongside 2,232 toilets, 87 science laboratories, 29 computer centres and 180 boreholes.
It added that 81,540 pieces of furniture were provided for teachers and pupils, as well as 35 games villages, 876 chairs and 236 tables.
The forum said four bilingual education schools were also constructed in Igabi, Zaria, Kubau and Giwa Local Government Areas, comprising 192 classrooms with capacity for about 7,680 learners.
It further reported the distribution of 545,748 teaching and learning materials, 7,584 sports equipment and 110 smart boards to schools across the state.
On teacher development, the forum said more than 33,137 teachers, head teachers and school support officers received training in computer skills, classroom management, literacy, numeracy and school management information systems.
Against this background, the forum passed a vote of confidence in Governor Uba Sani and endorsed him for another term in 2027, while proposing Comrade Jerry Adams as his running mate.
The forum said the endorsement was based on its assessment of the administration’s performance in the education sector, among other achievements.
It also commended the Kaduna Best Teacher of the Year Award, saying 23 teachers received cash prizes totalling N12.5 million, alongside scholarships and other incentives.
The forum said the implementation of the national minimum wage increased salaries of primary school teachers from N38,000 to N72,000, while N548 million was released to resolve the Nigeria Union of Teachers Endwell Scheme dispute.
It added that promotion backlogs from 2021 to 2024 had been cleared, while the 2026 promotion exercise had been approved.
The forum welcomed the planned recruitment of an additional 10,000 teachers, but called for proper deployment, continuous professional development, regular supervision and maintenance of school infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of Kaduna State ALGON, its Vice Chairman and Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area, Dauda Madaki, also commended the government’s education initiatives across the 23 local government areas.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, teacher deployment and school leadership to improve learning outcomes across Kaduna State.
