Jigawa State Government has approved the review of the 2026 budget and a proposed supplementary budget to reflect prevailing revenue realities and emerging expenditure priorities.

The State Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, disclosed this in a statement made available to Radio Nigeria.

He said the review became necessary due to changes in the state’s revenue outlook, including adjustments to capital revenue sources, reversal of previously proposed savings from some expenditure lines and the emergence of new priorities requiring government attention.

According to him, the revised 2026 budget and supplementary budget will be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for consideration and legislative approval.

On the reactivation of the Polling Unit Fund, the Commissioner said the Executive Council had directed all members of the State Executive Council to oversee and monitor local government administration and grassroots project implementation in their respective local government areas.

He said the directive followed extensive deliberations by the council on the impact and implementation of the programme.

The Commissioner also announced the council’s approval of measures aimed at transforming the state’s education sector and eliminating learning poverty through the Jigawa State Learning Poverty-Free Initiative, covering 2026 to 2031.

He said the initiative was presented by the Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawal Yunusa Danzomo.

The council, chaired by Governor Umar Namadi, also offered special prayers for the peaceful repose of the late 16th Emir of Gumel, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sani II.

It prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the late Emir’s shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

The council further commended the late traditional ruler for his leadership, commitment to peace and contributions to the socioeconomic development of Gumel Emirate and Jigawa State.
