Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to strengthen data integrity and enhance national security through the full implementation of the NIMC Act 2026.

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), gave the assurance while receiving the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja.

In a statement by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, General Musa said reliable data remains a critical tool in modern security operations, stressing that effective identification of individuals is essential to tackling both internal and external security threats.

He noted that security agencies require accurate information to identify those they engage with and protect the nation from emerging threats.

The Defence Minister also assured that the Ministry would continue to support government institutions in carrying out their responsibilities, emphasizing that stronger collaboration among agencies is key to addressing today’s evolving security challenges.

Earlier, the Director General of NIMC, Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the engagement was aimed at advancing the implementation of the NIMC Act 2026 to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.

Both leaders agreed on the need for a secure, trusted, and interoperable digital identity system to improve identity verification, enhance defence operations, and promote seamless intelligence sharing across government agencies.
