Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced plans to close the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Konduga as part of the state’s ongoing resettlement programme.

The governor made the announcement during a visit to Konduga, following the successful closure of the Bama IDP camp and the planned shutdown of the Gwoza camp.

Governor Zulum said the resettlement process would be voluntary, stressing that no displaced person would be forced to return to any community against their wishes.

He said consultations with displaced persons would continue over the next four months before the relocation begins, adding that the exercise would be carried out in a dignified manner.

During the visit, the governor inspected ongoing construction of resettlement houses in Amarwa, Konduga Local Government Area.

He also visited Maiwa in neighbouring Mafa Local Government Area, where additional housing units are being built for returning displaced persons.

The housing estates are being equipped with basic facilities, including a primary healthcare centre, potable water supply and other essential infrastructure to support sustainable resettlement.

Governor Zulum was accompanied by the member representing Bama, Ngala and Kala-Balge Federal Constituency, Bukar Talba; the member representing Konduga Constituency in the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Bukar Modu; the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele; and other senior government officials.
