A renowned scholar, Professor Jerome Nyameh in Taraba State, has officially announced his exit from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), dated April 17, 2026.
Nyameh announced his decision on Tuesday 12 May 2026, at a press conference held in Jalingo, the capital city.
Nyameh, who tagged his agenda as “Taraba Therapy”, described it as a practical way to socio-economic salvation and recovery mission designed to restore hope, stabilise governance, revive the economy, and reconnect government with the people.
He stated that he left the PDP after conducting thorough consultations with elders, youths, women, professionals, traditional stakeholders, and patriotic citizens across the state.
Professor Nyameh also announced that he has now secured a membership of the Accord Party and officially declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat in 2027.
According to him, his decision was driven by personal ambition, but by an urgent moral responsibility to save Taraba State from backwardness, economic decline, insecurity, rising debt profile, and systematic abuse of power.
He noted that for years, people have watched the enormous potential of the state being wasted through poor governance, weak institutions, and policies that have failed to improve the lives of ordinary Tarabans.
The hopeful gubernatorial aspirant, revealed that despite the reach of agricultural resources, tourism potentials, mineral deposits, and a hardworking population, the State remains underdeveloped.
He lamented that Taraba is the only state across the federation in which, after more than (30) years of creation, they still count almost five (5) LG councils that are yet to be connected with the National Grid, while insecurity and tribal division persist.
Additionally, the Accord Party’s gubernatorial aspirant insisted that the growing debt profile of the state without corresponding infrastructural or economic advancement, is worrisome.

Professor Nyameh also alleged that their share of the national wealth keeps disappearing into a seeming black hole, stressing the need for all hands to be on deck to bring the state back to the right track.
“It is my committed belief as well as that of the majority of our people that the time has come to free our state from the shackles of an arrested development, onto the path of dignity and ease from the inflicted pains of poverty.
“It is with these painful facts that I am stepping forward under the Accord Party with a bold recovery blueprint anchored on the principle of the 3Rs Resolution Framework.” Professor Nyameh revealed.
He said the 3Rs are Recovery, Resource utilisation, and Renegotiation as an immediate solution to address the urgent debt situation inflicted on the people of the state by accident and unprepared leadership.
He maintained that this framework will enable them to reposition the state as a leading economic hub in Northern Nigeria through Trade and Industries, Healthcare for all, Education for self and society.
Professor Jerome Nyameh assured that his administration, if elected, would also focus on Agribusinesses, Prosperity drive, and Youth empowerment, among others.
