The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North West), Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, hosted a high-level press conference at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to formally unveil the North West Climate Summit and its integrated climate development platform scheduled for August 2026.
The press conference brought together key government stakeholders, development actors, and members of the media in a move aimed at advancing coordinated climate action and investment mobilisation across the North West region.
Addressing the gathering, Yakasai said the importance of the summit cannot be overstated, describing it as a pivot from talk to tangible financing and execution under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“The summit represents a strategic shift from climate vulnerability to climate investment,” he stated.

Also in attendance were Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement from across the regions, demonstrating what he called a unified national alignment on climate engagement and regional development.
Other dignitaries present include the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, and the representative of the private sector, Hon. Kaloma Dahiru Mustapha.
The North West Climate Summit is expected to serve as a platform for unlocking climate financing and driving sustainable development initiatives across the region.
