As April 25, 2026 approaches, a prominent Fourth Republic figure, Senator and Ambassador Ahmad AbdulHamid Mallam Madori, has extended messages of felicitations and camaraderie to indigenes of Hadejia at home and in the diaspora, ahead of a grand durbar commemorating 120 years since the British colonial conquest of the ancient town.
The event, themed “120 Years: One Durbar, One Hadejia,” is aimed at reflecting on the historic encounter between the British Colonial Army and the gallant native forces of Hadejia, who mounted strong resistance during the invasion.
The Chief Executive Officer of Atafi Communications in Abuja, Haruna Aliyu said the historical accounts indicate that although the British forces eventually subdued the Hadejia Native Army, the victory was not easily secured, as the encounter reportedly resulted in significant casualties, including the death of a British commander popularly referred to as “Mai Tumbi,” alongside several senior personnel.
Senator Madori described the episode as a symbol of resilience and courage, noting that it challenges narratives suggesting an outright and effortless defeat of the Hadejia forces.
He added that available historical records provide perspectives that contradict such claims.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs expressed optimism that the forthcoming durbar would celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Hadejia, while preserving the dignity and legacy of its people.
He called on all sons and daughters of the emirate, as well as visitors, to converge on Hadejia on April 25, 2026, for what he described as a historic and colourful cultural display.
