The Centre for Girls’ Education-CGE has solicited for the continued support of parents, traditional and religious leaders in promoting the education of adolescent girls.

Project Co-ordinator of the Centre, Malama Alawiya Abdullahi made the call at a one-day stakeholders meeting, held at the Centre’s Conference hall, Sabon Gari GRA, Zaria.

Malama Alawiya Abdullahi noted that the project focused on providing literacy and numeracy skills to girls between the ages of eleven and sixteen, particularly those that are out of school or have dropped out.

She explained that the meeting was the fourth engagement organised by the centre to assess progress, discuss challenges and strengthen community ownership of the project.

The project co-ordinator therefore called on traditional rulers and Imams to intensify sensitization efforts, and encourage parents to allow their daughters access to quality education.

Some stakeholders at the meeting commended the project for its positive impact on their communities, highlighting how it has enhanced educational opportunities for their daughters.

Participants at the meeting resolved to work together in promoting girls’ education and ensuring the sustainability of their pathways to choice project in their communities.

During the meeting, participants provided feedback and took part in group discussions facilitated by project officials.

The meeting drew participants from Giwa, Makarfi, Sabon Gari and Zaria Local Government Areas.
