Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has apologised to Nigerians following the team’s defeat to Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the result as a disappointing moment for the country.
In a message shared after the match, Nwabali acknowledged the pain of letting fans down but urged supporters to view the loss as part of the learning process in football.“I know how it feels to give a whole nation a disappointing night.
After each game, there are winners and learners,” he said.
The goalkeeper noted that the Super Eagles gave all their best despite playing in front of a large crowd, adding that the team remains united and determined.
“We played in a 70,000-capacity stadium and fought with everything we had. I’m proud of this team even in defeat. A bad game doesn’t make you a bad player, and the scoreboard doesn’t measure your heart,” Nwabali said.
He thanked Nigerians for their continued support and expressed the team’s appreciation despite the setback.
“To Nigerians, we apologise. We love you and thank you for the love and support,” he added.
The Super Eagles’ loss to Morocco has sparked widespread reaction among fans, with calls for reflection and renewed focus as the tournament progresses.
