Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed Phase II of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Zamfara State, as part of preparations towards the 2027 general elections.
The resumption was announced by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr. Mahmuda Isah, during a stakeholders’ meeting held today at the INEC State Office in Gusau.
Dr. Isah said the CVR exercise, which commenced nationwide on 5 January 2026, was aimed at ensuring that all eligible Nigerians are given the opportunity to register and actively participate in the electoral process.
He stressed that, credible elections depend on the collective efforts of all stakeholders, noting that, INEC cannot deliver a successful electoral process alone.
Dr Isah argued that, every successful Continuous Voter Registration and election depends on the collective will of all stakeholders and them to join hands with the Commission to ensure credible elections in 2027.
According to the REC, the Commission has approved online pre-registration on a continuous basis, alongside in-person registration at INEC Local Government Area offices nationwide.
Dr Mahmud Isah pointed out that, In Zamfara State, registration is currently taking place at 14 INEC Local government offices and the state office in Gusau, making a total of 15 registration centres.
Dr. Isah explained that the CVR exercise is open to new voters aged 18 years and above, individuals who have not registered previously, those seeking to replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), voters wishing to transfer their registration, and persons who need to update or correct their voter information.
He described obtaining a PVC as a civic responsibility, emphasizing that, it remains the only instrument that qualifies citizens to vote or contest elective offices in Nigeria.
The REC appealed to political parties, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, security agencies, and the media to intensify sensitization efforts and encourage eligible citizens to participate in the ongoing registration exercise.
“I want to appeal to all stakeholders to mobilise and sensitise their people on the need to obtain their PVCs, as it is the only document that qualifies them to vote,” he added.
Dr. Isah expressed appreciation to security agencies, traditional rulers, political parties, religious leaders, the media, voters, and other institutions supporting the electoral process in the state.
He assured that, NEC remains committed to transparency, integrity, and fairness in the conduct of the CVR exercise and future elections.
