President Bola Tinubu says the Federal Government’s ongoing economic and institutional reforms are designed to secure a prosperous future for Nigerian youths by equipping them with globally competitive skills.
Receiving the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu said young people remain central to national development, and their ownership of the reforms will determine the country’s long-term success.
He noted that Nigeria’s participation in the G-20 meetings reflects a growing focus on youth development, economic revival, and skills enhancement.
According to the President, the administration is adopting global best practices to expand opportunities for young Nigerians, including the recently launched Student Loan Fund, which ensures that financial constraints do not hinder access to higher education.
He explained that the reforms cut across all sectors with a clear vision of creating synergy, promoting harmony among stakeholders, and ensuring sustainable national growth.
President Tinubu also highlighted progress in security operations and thanked humanitarian groups supporting victims of terrorism.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, said the reform agenda is youth-centered, noting that Nigeria’s median age of 17 makes it necessary to prioritise skills, participation, and innovation.
Prince Edward praised Nigeria’s reform efforts, noting their positive global reception. He said he was in the country to brief the President on the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award ceremony scheduled for Lagos.
According to him, 320 Nigerian youths will be honoured for outstanding achievements in skills development, community service, and personal growth.
He commended Minister Edun for championing youth development within the reform framework and for his support in hosting the event.
The Duke was accompanied by the British High Commissioner, Sir Richard Montgomery, senior officials of the Award Foundation, and representatives of its Africa region leadership.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a global non-formal education programme that encourages young people to build resilience, leadership, and service-oriented skills through structured activities delivered by schools and youth organisations.
