Members of the National Union of Civil Engineering Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers (NUCEFWW) have been urged to strengthen unity and uphold the ideals of genuine trade unionism as a pathway to securing better welfare and sustainable progress in the sector.

This call was made during the 7th Quadrennial State Delegate Conference of the union, held in  Kaduna under the theme “Building Trade Unions’ Future through Strategic Organizing and Investment.”

The conference brought together delegates, stakeholders, and labour leaders from across the state to deliberate on issues affecting workers in the construction and allied industries.

Speaking at the event, the National Secretary General of NUCEFWW, Engineer Ibrahim Malama, emphasized the importance of solidarity, innovation, and continuous dialogue in tackling the challenges confronting workers.

He said the conference offered members an opportunity to review past achievements and design new strategies for a more vibrant and responsive union.

Engineer Malama commended members for their dedication to industrial harmony and welfare advocacy despite economic challenges.

He maintained that NUCEFWW’s focus on strategic organizing and purposeful investment remained vital to sustaining the relevance of trade unions in an ever-evolving economy.

He further charged the newly elected officials to embrace transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in discharging their duties, noting that a strong union thrives on trust and active participation from all members.

In a remark the newly elected State Chairman of NUCEFWW, Comrade Samaila Sunday, pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessors and to operate an open, inclusive leadership that would carry every member along.

Comrade Sunday underscored the importance of continuous training, capacity building, and improved welfare as essential to strengthening the union’s presence in the construction and woodwork sectors.

He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting workers’ rights, enhancing job security, and sustaining collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

The conference ended with a renewed determination by members to deepen internal democracy, broaden participation, and promote unity within the National Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers (NUCEFWW), reaffirming that collective strength and vision remain the foundation for advancing workers’ welfare in Nigeria.
