The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Dr. Tony Ojukwu, has visited the Kano Commissioner of Information to strengthen institutional collaboration aimed at advancing human rights and social justice.

During the visit, Dr. Ojukwu highlighted key areas of partnership between the Commission and the state government.

These include enhancing operational synergy between the NHRC’s Kano Office and relevant state institutions, promoting human rights education and awareness among public officers, traditional and religious leaders, and ensuring compliance within the justice and security sectors.

He also emphasized the importance of collaboration in preventing and addressing human rights violations particularly those affecting women, children, persons with disabilities, and detainees while fostering peacebuilding, social inclusion, and community engagement across the state.

Dr. Ojukwu commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his administration’s steadfast commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in Kano State.

Responding, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the NHRC in safeguarding the rights and dignity of its people.

He explained that under the current administration, several reforms have been introduced to strengthen justice delivery and ensure fairness, saying that the Kano State Hisbah Board has been empowered to handle matters related to social justice and human rights with greater professionalism and compassion.
