The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has charged the Corps of artillery to align with latest tactics and techniques for enhanced operational effectiveness.

He gave the charge in a message at the closing ceremony of this year’s Exercise Vulcan Glow (Eleven), held at the Army training military range in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede explained that the dynamic and evolving nature of contemporary threat landscape demands a holistic approach to the conduct of Army operations.

Represented by Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, the Army Chief noted that the Army has been at the forefront in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, making immense sacrifices to safeguard the peace and security of Nigeria.

“To this end, we must keep our minds open to learning not only from exercises such as vulcan glow, but also from practical experiences in the field”.

Lt. General Oluyede expressed delight that the Corps has continued to demonstrate its potency and capability through the provision of effective fire support for on-going operations.

Earlier in his welcome address, Commander Corps of Artillery, Major General Zakari Abubakar explained that Vulcan Glow is a field training exercise that culminate the Corps’ training activity for each year, conducted in line with Army headquarters directive.

He pointed out that it is also an avenue to assess the combat readiness of artillery formations and units, as well as their capabilities and readiness in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.

Major General Abubakar commended the Chief of Army Staff for the procurement of advanced artillery platforms, which according to him, would add value to on-going operations across the country.

Highpoint of the Exercise was a firepower demonstration of various artillery platforms and presentation of trophies to brigades who participated in competitions.

The theme for this year’s Exercise is “Repositioning Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery Through Realistic Training And Maintenance of Artillery Platforms For Effective Fire Support To Nigerian Army Operations Within A Joint And Multi-Agency Environment”.
