A total of forty six persons have killed while two hundred and five persons injured in forty seven reported cases of road crashes between fifteen December twenty twenty four to fifteen January twenty twenty five in an operation zero carried out by Niger state sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, in charge of Niger state, Corp Commander Aishat Sa’adu, stated this while addressing Newsmen at the IBB Pen House Minna, on 2025 Ember Months Campaign, with the theme Take Responsibility For Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving.
Aishat Sa’adu explained that in the first three quarter of twenty twenty five, there were two hundred and fifty three reported crashes involving two thousand five hundred and twenty two victims with two hundred and forty eight persons killed and one thousand two hundred and seventy two persons injured.
The figure according to her showed a reduction in twenty twenty five compared to that of twenty twenty four, with one hundred and sixty six less than the number of crashes last year including a drastic reduction in the number of people that died in road crashes in Niger state.
Aishat Sa’adu attributed the road crashes to excessive speeding and overloading of persons, goods and animal route violation, driving against traffic and wrongful overtaking amongst others.
She however maintained that driver behaviour is a fundamental element in determining safety on the nations highways.
Aishat Sa’adu commended the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed for not only maintaining but sustaining the welfare package of his staff, such as housing and the healthcare which she said was comprehensive.
She also applauded Niger state Government for its support, the Media, and other critical stakeholders in parts of Niger state for their unwavering support to the success of Federal Road Safety Corps and called for more to succeed.
