First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism that the National Library of Nigeria, when fully completed, will become a modern, digitized national pride and a vital repository of the nation’s history and cultural heritage.

Senator Tinubu stated this after a facility tour of the Qatar National Library in Doha, describing it as a model from which Nigeria could draw inspiration in completing and modernizing its own national library.

She emphasized that Nigeria is blessed with a robust cultural heritage that must be properly documented for posterity.

She stressed that youth must have a reference point to learn more about their nation.

The First Lady also commended the library’s motto, “Free Access to Knowledge,” and its vast collection of two million books and 500,000 e-books, which she described as “a true monument and pride of Qatar.”

Her visit to the Qatar National Library was her first engagement in Doha and a prelude to her meeting with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

The meeting, according to her, is aimed at securing partnerships to address the challenges of out-of-school children and Almajiri education in Nigeria.
