A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano, presided over by Justice Halima Wali of Court No. 7 has sentenced popular TikToker Ashiru Idris, widely known as “Maiwushirya,” to two weeks in a correctional facility for publishing indecent images and videos of himself and a female companion on social media.

The conviction followed his violation of the Kano State Censorship Board laws, which prohibit the production, circulation, and sharing of obscene or immoral materials within the state.

In a statement released shortly after the judgment, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, said the ruling reinforces the government’s renewed commitment to sanitizing the use of social media in line with moral, cultural, and religious standards.

According to him, the judgment aligns with the recent amendment to the Censorship Board’s operational mandate, which now covers the oversight and regulation of digital and social media content.

“The revised law empowers the board to monitor, investigate, and prosecute individuals or organizations found promoting materials contrary to societal norms and Islamic teachings”

Sulaiman stressed that under the leadership of Abba El-Mustapha, the board remains resolute in ensuring order and decency in the state’s media space.

“The Censorship Board will not tolerate the circulation of immoral or indecent materials, especially through social media platforms. We will continue to monitor and take lawful action against offenders,”

He further urged social media users to respect the law, uphold cultural values, and adhere to religious principles to preserve the moral integrity and dignity of Kano society.
