The Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III says the family remains the first and most powerful institution of moral formation.

He stated this in a lecture he delivered at the on-going Exercise Haske Biyu 2025 holding at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.

Chief Ogiame Atuwatse III noted that inspite of the role they play, traditional institutions are still not recognised in the constitution.

He pointed out that traditional leaders are still held accountable for security at the grassroot, without formal backing or means to effectively enforce it.

“Traditional rulers, often through their subordinates, assign punishments to serve not just justice, but as a public deterrent”

The monarch observed that with the rising cases of security challenges, royal fathers are still expected to gather intelligence, settle conflicts and help in dousing tension.

He stressed that trust must be central to the mission of traditional institutions to restore the glory of flow of information critical to national security.

“Traditional rulers must remain unbiased arbiters of Justice, not tools of the State, but trusted guides who hold the moral fabric of their communities together”

Chief Ogiame Atuwatse III re-iterated that traditional rulers must remain unbiased arbiters of justice and trusted guides who hold the moral fabric of their communities together.

Radio Nigeria reports that the Olu of Warri delivered a lecture on “Strengthening Family Values For National Security: The Roles of Traditional Institutions”
