The Zamfara State Government has appealed to the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), Premier Urgence Internationale (PUI), and other stakeholders for additional support to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

The State Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Alhaji Salisu Musa Tsafe, made the call while addressing participants at a one-day kick-off meeting on the Lifesaving, Empowerment and Resilience Project (LEARP), funded by the FCDO, held in Abuja.

In a statement signed by the Director of Information of the Ministry, Bashir Kabiru Ahmad, the Commissioner explained that the state is currently hosting thousands of IDPs from over 1,008 communities across the 14 Local Government Areas, as captured in the State Social Register.

Alhaji Musa Tsafe revealed that, the support needs are in the areas Livelihood, Empowerment, Multipurpose Cash Transfer and other possible interventions with a view to cushioning the effects of the IPDs situation in the state.

Alhaji Tsafe commended development partners for their continued support for IDPs and other vulnerable persons in Zamfara.

According to him, the project which is designed to be implemented by the Premier Urgence International (PUI) will significantly be of paramount support to the people of Zamfara State.

He described the meeting as a milestone in the state’s efforts to uplift the living standards of IDPs and vulnerable groups, especially women and children.

The Commissioner further recalled the contributions of PUI and other partners during the 2025 World Humanitarian Day, which included direct support to households, awareness creation, and a tree-planting campaign aimed at mitigating the effects of natural disasters.

Alhaji Tsafe assured partners that Zamfara State under Governor Dauda Lawal has provided the political will and enabling environment for humanitarian organizations to operate effectively.
