The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the conviction of Rabiu Musa Matazu, Director of Administration at the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority for misappropriating public funds.

 

This was stated in a statement, signed by ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare and made available to journalists.

 

He said the conviction underscores the Commission’s resolve to ensure that public office is not used for personal gain.

Rabiu Musa Matazu was arraigned before Justice Abbas Bawule of the Katsina State High Court on a four-count charge of criminal breach of trust and abuse of office.

 

ICPC told the court that he received ₦305,000 rent proceeds from the Authority’s properties in Katsina through a subordinate but diverted the money for personal use.

 

Despite pleading not guilty, the court found him guilty after a three-year trial.

 

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment or a ₦20,000 fine on three counts, and five years imprisonment without an option of fine on the fourth count. The sentences will run concurrently.
