Kano State Hisbah Board says it has successfully resolved no fewer than 621 marriage-related disputes in 2024, as part of efforts to promote peace, morality, and social stability in the state.

The Deputy Commander of the Board,Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen stated this in Kano.

According to him, the Board received a total of 16,939 complaints during the year under review, out of which 7,884 were amicably settled, while 2,836 criminal cases were charged to court.

Sheikh Mujahid pointed out that the Board also facilitated the recovery and disbursement of upkeep and loan default cases worth over ₦212 million within the period.

Highlighting some of the Board’s major achievements, he explained that the Hisbah board successfully conducted a mass wedding for 3,800 couples in 2024.

“The aim of the exercise was to curb prostitution and other immoral acts, particularly among divorcees, widows, and young women,”

The Deputy Commander general also revealed that 1,000 Hisbah guards received capacity-building training to boost their performance, while plans are underway to establish a Hisbah Training Academy.

The Deputy Commander stressed that Hisbah remains committed to promoting moral values, peaceful coexistence, and justice in line with Islamic principles.

“Hisbah is an agency that stands firm in redirecting society towards good morals, fairness, and justice. By discouraging harmful behavior such as lying, stealing, and violence, we help reduce social problems and strengthen communities,”

He noted that the Board continues to champion equality and protection of the weak and vulnerable, including Muslims and non-Muslims, in order to build a fairer and more disciplined society.

Mujahid maintained that the Kano State Government is considering key reforms for the Board, including:

Salary increment for Hisbah corps under the civil service scheme,

Introduction of a retirement plan for personnel,

New uniforms for Hisbah guards, and

Reconstruction of the Hisbah headquarters.

He emphasized that morality is central to building a peaceful and responsible society, adding that the state government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to supporting Hisbah’s mandate of safeguarding moral integrity in accordance with Islamic sharia.
