Nearly one thousand rice farms have been destroyed by flooding in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Reports say the disaster affected about 995 farms across 16 villages in Kuzunzumi ward.

Spokesperson of the affected communities, Abdurahman Maikano, warned that the incident could result in food shortages and loss of income for many households.

He appealed to the state government and relevant agencies to intervene and provide urgent relief.

Some affected farmers, Suraja Muhammad and Malam Musa, noted that flooding has become a recurring challenge in the area.

They urged government to engage experts to help prevent and reduce future disasters.

The farmers commended the Chairman of Babura Local Government, Malam Hamisu Muhammad Garu, for sending a delegation to sympathize with them.

The villages affected by the flood include Kwagga, Martini, Fadibara, Kuzunzumi, Jikan Kanwa, Dangaigai, Dankarda, Karfawa, Burukum Gari, Sabon Baka, Shashatu, Burukum Filin, and Kurtulla.
