Architect Kabir Ibrahim

National President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Architect Kabir Ibrahim, says the use of Genetically Modified (GMO) seeds by farmers is optional.

Speaking in a telephone interview from Abuja, Architect Kabir Ibrahim expressed dismay over criticisms of GMO seeds by people he described as not well informed about the scientific development.

He recalled that the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan had approved the biosafety programme, which has since been practiced nationwide without any health concerns.

The AFAN president noted that success of other initiatives including organic agriculture should be complemented by the new scientific seed expected to improve crop yields across the country.

Architect Kabir Ibrahim who was invited to attend an agricultural show in Lagos scheduled for tomorrow expressed hope that such event would facilitate export of cash crops for improved revenue generation to develop the country.
