Kaduna State Head of Service, Mrs Jummai Bako has urged Public Servants in the state to work together to build a culture that values excellence, integrity and accountability.

 

Mrs Bako stated this at a one day in house sensitization workshop on work ethics and disciplinary procedures in Kaduna State public service for Directors of Administration and Finance and Staff Officers held in Kaduna.

 

Declaring the workshop open, the Head of service, Mrs Jummai Bako explained that the workshop was born out of the growing concern of misconduct and indiscipline in the workforce, hence the need to reawakening the Directors to their responsibilities.

 

“We’ve been having a lot of issues, when government is taking to court you discovered that the MDA concerned did not follow the disciplinary procedures, that is why you find out some times cases are won against the government, so we call them today to refresh back their memory on the work ethics and disciplinary procedures in the public service”, she said.

 

Mrs Bako said that the public service as the engine room of the government should work in ethics and disciplinary procedures.

 

She noted that the workshop is to provide a platform to discuss best practices, share experiences and explore ways to address challenges in their daily operations as to how to handle and treat issues related to disciplinary actions.

 

The Head of Service, urged them to reflect on the roles and responsibilities in promoting work ethics and maintaining discipline with in the public service to enhance public trust and confidence in the service.

 

In his power point presentation, Director Establishment office of the Head of Service, Mr. Alexander Garba who spoke on the topic: work ethics and code of conduct in Kaduna State Public service noted that the workshop is timely to remind the Directors of the MDAs of their responsibilities and they expect to have positive change from the attitudes of the public servants in the state.

 

According to him, Ethical Principles for public servants include discipline, leadership by example, knowledge of laws, rules and regulations, knowledge of the scope of their jobs descriptions, clear and direct communication, honesty, diligence and decisiveness of their duties and called on the participants to work in adherence to the principles.

 

Some of the participant, Rakiya Umar, Habiba Mohammed, Yahaya Dauda, Hauwa Tukur and Seth Ali, said the workshop is timely and very educative and it reminds them of things they have forgotten and promised to do step down training to their staff for enhanced productivity.

 

Highlight of the workshop include paper presentations, interactive questions and answers sessions.

 

The one day sensitization workshop has its theme: work ethics and disciplinary procedures in Kaduna State public service.
