The Air Component of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), has recorded a significant operational breakthrough with a precision airstrike on August 4, 2025, targeting a major terrorist convergence at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, the strike was based on credible intelligence that revealed a gathering of terrorists from Faskari and Kankara in Katsina State, as well as elements from different parts of Zamfara. The terrorists were said to have assembled for a wedding ceremony.
Captain Adewusi confirmed that the airstrike neutralized dozens of terrorists, while several others sustained life-threatening injuries. The injured were reportedly evacuated by their comrades to Yankuzo village for treatment.
In a swift follow-up, troops of 1 Brigade under Sector 2 OPFY launched a coordinated ground operation in the early hours of August 5. The troops successfully fought through an ambush laid along the route to Yankuzo village and engaged fleeing terrorists in a heavy exchange of fire.
Reliable sources and local residents confirmed that at least 30 terrorists were eliminated in the combined air and ground operations. Additionally, four terrorist collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA were critically injured during the encounter.
The operation has brought relief to residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding communities, who have faced repeated terrorist attacks and intimidation in recent times.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has reiterated its commitment to restoring lasting peace and ensuring the security of lives and property across Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
