Zamfara State Government has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending insecurity in the state, pledging to ensure the deployment of more troops to Banga village, the community where 38 captives were brutally killed by armed bandits.
The Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Malam Mumini, made this known while commiserating with communities affected by the bandits’ attack in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area.
In response to the tragic incident, Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mumini led a high-powered delegation comprising top government officials and security agencies to Banga and three other affected communities to sympathize with residents and distribute relief materials and financial assistance.
Malam Mumini also reiterated the state government’s firm stance against negotiating with criminals, insisting that decisive military action remains the only viable solution.
He assured the affected communities that the government is working assiduously to restore peace in the region.
The state government also provided relief items and financial support to bereaved families across the four affected communities — a gesture aimed at offering temporary relief and restoring hope as efforts toward sustainable peace continue.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Kaura-Namoda Local Government, Manir Haidara, while addressing members of the communities, acknowledged the commitment of the Zamfara State Government to addressing the lingering insecurity in the state.
“As you know, the Zamfara State Government is not resting on its oars in its effort to provide security for you. You are witnesses to the fact that the state government has your welfare and safety at heart. As a result, it brought in the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) from Borno State to help eliminate the bandits. You know the impact they’ve made in the fight against insecurity,” he said.
Earlier, the Emir of Kaura-Namoda, Alhaji Sanusi Asha, appreciated the government’s visit and clarified that the abduction in Banga actually took place in April, not February as widely reported.
Some community members who spoke during the visit appealed to the government to expedite action in ensuring the safe return of those still in captivity and to provide a sustainable security framework to protect lives and property.
The Banga community attack is one of several recent assaults on rural populations in Zamfara State, as armed bandits continue to terrorize communities across the North-West region.
The government, in collaboration with security agencies and traditional institutions, has continued to strategize on effective ways to counter the threat and bring relief to affected populations.
The attacks, which spanned Banga, Kungurki, Kogin Audu, and Kurya-Madaro in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area, have left over 55 people dead.
Thirty-eight hostages were executed in captivity at Banga village alone. Seven others were reportedly killed in Kungurki, while more casualties were recorded in Kurya-Madaro.
The Development has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for urgent government action.
