In a bid to supporting Sokoto state government, Unicef has provided a state of the art Digital Village aimed at providing digital and vocational training to Almajirai children and out of school adolescent girls in the state .

Speaking at the launch, UNICEF Country Representative, Ms. Cristian Munduate—represented by Chief of Field Office, Sokoto state, Michaela Jima, said the initiative is targeted at enhancing learning opportunities for vulnerable children.

Radio Nigeria in the state report that the digital village which was provided at the Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Institute for Qur’anic and General Studies in Sokoto township is designed to offers structured learning in digital literacy, vocational skills, foundational literacy for socio-security and
economic development.

The country representative explained that the iniative will be delivered in local languages to ensure good understanding and accessibility.

She said 150 Almajiri boys and 100 girls are expected to benefit in the first phase, equipping them with skills to become productive members of society.

The Unicef also remodeled the state children’s nutritional warehouse and pledged to supply essential children’s nutrients with a view to promoting healthy children growth in the state.

In his remarks, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto state announced the approval of five hundred million naira counterpart funding and pledged to provide other needed support for sustainable development.

The governor commended the effort of the Unicef stressing that the state government is always ready to work with development partners that have direct bearing to the socio-economic and security development of the state.
