The Centre for Gender Studies (CGS), Bayero University Kano (BUK) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing gender-related initiatives by renewing its mandate and enhancing its human resource capacity.

The Director CGS, Safiya Nuhu, stated this during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas.

She assured the vice chancellor of CG’s continued support in tackling societal issues, particularly in reinforcing family values, promoting cultural heritage, and instilling positive moral upbringing.

Safiya emphasized that the new appointments of deputy directors of the center signify the University’s shared commitment to addressing pressing societal challenges through gender-focused research and community engagement.

The director also briefed the Vice-Chancellor on CGS’s revitalized vision and strategic initiatives.

She explained that the Centre would be marking its 10th anniversary in 2025 and has intensified efforts in training programmes, research, collaborations, and impactful projects.

“One notable partnership is the “Knowledge for Change” initiative, a collaborative effort with universities in Canada and Uganda aimed at addressing gender-based issues through research and capacity building”

In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas commended the Centre for its renewed energy and initiatives.

He assured the team of the University’s continued support in tackling societal issues, particularly in reinforcing family values, promoting cultural heritage, and instilling positive moral upbringing.

Professor Sagir encouraged the Centre to explore innovative solutions to contemporary challenges facing women and youth, including drug abuse, and to leverage its expertise in securing internal and external funding for sustainability.
