The United Nations Development Programme-UNDP says good governance and national cohesion are critical to fostering stability, progress and prosperity in Nigeria.

The UNDP team lead, governance, peace and security, Mr Matthew Alao stated this during the graduation ceremony of the leadership and national cohesion course 1/2024, held at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.

Mr Matthew Alao stressed the need for concerted effort to address leadership deficit from the family and community levels for national development.

He advocated for a paradigm shift from individualistic tendencies of Nigerians to being their brothers keeper.

The UNDP team lead noted that the graduation ceremony was a significant step towards the advancement of peace, security and unity in Nigeria and the ECOWAS sub-region.

Also speaking, the Chief of training at the Army headquarters, Major General Sani Muhammad pointed out that without national cohesion, no nation can achieve socioeconomic and political development.

Represented by Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, the Chief of training said the overall objective of the course was aimed at equipping participants to be able to handle challenges that arises with leadership.

In his remarks, Commandant of the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Major General Ademola Adedoja disclosed that the course was designed to equip the participants with the expertise to function effectively in a complex, dynamic, multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural and religious environment.

He added that it was also aimed at inculcating participants to become role models in their various establishments, as well as good good ambassadors of the centre.
