The Vice Chancellor of Khairun University Kano, Professor Abdulrasheed Garba says adequate utilization of digital library in Universities as a key factor to educational development in the country.
Professor Abdulrasheed Garba stated this during the opening ceremony of First International Conference on Library Science organized by Khairun University Kano in collaboration with Yusuf Maitama Sule University, held in Kano.
Professor Abdulrasheed Garba noted that the objectives of the conference was to acquaint participants the importance of utilizing digital library geared towards enhancing educational development.
He said since assumption in office as the Vice Chancellor of Khairun University, emphasis was made towards ensuring that the library was digitalized for optimum performance.
He charged students, academic and non academic staff to make adequate utilization of the digital library for effective service delivery.
The University librarian, Malam Nazir Mohammed who is the convener of the conference said the target was to bring librarians from across the country to rub minds on how to improve digital utilization of libraries in higher institutions of learning.
Declaring the conference opened, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the commissioner of Higher Education, Dr Yusuf Kofar Mata said the conference was timely.
Presenting a paper titled Policy Issue in the Changing Roles of the Digital Age, Professor Lukman Diso from Bayero University Kano said the use of Digital Library has become a global phenomenon, hence there was the need for the adoption of the technology in Nigerian Higher Education.
The ceremony was graced by participants from different Higher institutions across the country.
