The Nigeria Police have arrested 781 persons for violating electoral laws during the 2023 general election.

At a meeting with the Commissioners of Police from the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba said 185 cases of electoral infractions were recorded during the presidential election and 203 arrests have been made so far.

According to him, 304 electoral breaches were made and 578 persons were arrested during the Governorship and State Assembly elections.

IGP Alkali Baba said the meeting with the Commissioners and other leaders within the Force became imperative as some political actors have allegedly been trying to undermine the peace of the country following the polls.

The Police Boss condemned the action of the political actors who he accused of engaging in “ethnic profiling” in advancing their interests.

the IGP urged Nigerians to pursue peace and unity of the country.
