Fifteen people have drowned following a boat capsize in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto state.
Confirming the incident, Chairman of the Local council, Aliyu Dantanin said ten out of the twenty five people who boarded the canoe were rescued.
The chairman disclosed that the deceased persons wanted to crossover to attend Eid Maulud at a nearby village.
The incident is a recurrent tragedy in Shagari Dam.
Similar issue was reported in the first quarter of this year in which the state Governor promised to provide life jackets in a bit to forestall the recurrent misfortune in the area.
According to inhabitants of the area, the life jackets are yet to be provided.
