To help eradicate poverty and improve food security in the country, the Federal Government has spent over N3 billion on rural empowerment programs for 67,000 women.

Dame Pauline Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs, stated this while speaking to journalists in Abuja to commemorate International Day of Rural Women.

She said that women play an important role in the rural economy and emphasized the importance of empowering them.

“You will agree with me that gender relation play a good role in food security and nutrition management in the household and community, therefore addressing gender equality can result in larger food production and security.Dame Tallen.

Deputy Country Director, Oxfam, Adulazeez Musa, said the organization would partner stakeholders to advocate the protection of the rights of women and improve their standard of living.

“We see ourselves as feminist organization, basically we advocate and champion women’s rights and promote gender equality. We have women on our platform we are supporting. And we are happy and ready to commit to this kind of initiative”. He said.

He urged the agricultural sector to improve food production in the country
