The Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority says it has trained one hundred and twenty women and youths living with disabilities on various skills with a view to empowering them for self reliant.  

Head of Gender and Human Rights Unit Mrs Habiba Awwal said this when she recieved a team of the Agency’s union members led by its Chairman Comrade Saad Hassan at the empowernment centre in Minna.

Mrs Habiba Auwal maintained that the action is inline with President Muhammadu Buhari pronouncement that his administration will leave no stone unturn in creating jobs for one hundred million Nigerians.

She however said the programme was recently approved by the management of Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority as well as Gender and Human Rights Unit of the Agency inview of its strategic importance to human capital development aimed at taken women and youths living with disabilities off the street for viable venture.

Mrs Habiba Auwal expressed satisfaction with the outcome of various sub units for successfully impacting positively on the trainees to produce variety of items which would go a long way In making them financially vibrant and employers of labour. 

The Head of Gender and Human Right Unit quoted some of the benefitiaries to have been saying that despite facing some challenges they are making little profit from their hard earned turn over and thanked the Agency for this laudable gesture.

Similarly the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority has said that probity and accountability will continue to be its guiding principle in the award of contracts at all times.

Executive Director of the Agency Engineer Abdullahi Dankande announced this at the opening of bid for the execution of various projects to achieve meaninful results.

Engineer Abdullahi Dankande added that the law under the procurement act of two thousand and seven stipulates that government institution must follow due process in awarding contracts.
