Dr Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of Ekiti state and the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, has been elected President of the African Regional Forum.

According to Mr Abrazaque Bello-Barkindo, the Nigerian Governor’s Forum’s Head of Media and Public Affairs, the election was held in Saidia state, Casablanca, Morocco.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Fayemi maintained that leadership was more than a title and should be used to influence policies that benefit the people.

Dr Kayode Fayemi noted that the new cabinet decided to form a technical committee to review a workbook that would promote a new continental Forum.

The forum brought together for the first time the presidents of the regions, countries that have a second level of decentralized territorial government, including Nigeria, South Africa, Burkina Fasso Kenya and Madagarcar among others.

Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa States and Umar Ganduje of Kano state attended the event.
