Plans are underway by the Niger state government to make the study of hausa language compulsory in both primary and secondary schools in the state.
Permanent Commissioner Niger state Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Abdulkadir Shehu Nafuntua stated this while addressing Newsmen on the celebration of World Hausa Day in Minna.
Alhaji Abdulkadir Shehu Nafuntua urged critical stakeholders in education sector to look into the possibility of coming up with ways of encouraging students to study hausa language in tertiary institutions to enhance its scope and acceptability.
According to him, hausa language has gone international and being studied and spoken in almost every country of the world which clearly shows its uniqueness.
Alhaji Abdulkadir Shehu Nafuntua further explained that celebrating world hausa day is apt and timely because it has come a long way in view of its wider coverage and large number of its membership.
He warned that if care is not taken, hausa language will in the nearest future subsume many languages and advised other Nigerians to redouble efforts in ensuring that their languages did not go on extinction.
