The ongoing industrial action by the Academic Union of Universities may linger.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu gave this indication in Abuja on Thursday while briefing newsmen on the activities of his ministry.
He explained that ASUU had agreed with government’s recent offer to them, and also agreed to call off the strike if Federal Government pay them for the period they had been on strike.
The Minister however said government would not pay them for those months, saying that it simply applied the law relating to their action.
He said apart from ASUU, ASUP, NASU, SANU and other striking unions would be called off by next month.
On examination malpractice, The Minister of Education directed examination bodies in the country to find effective ways of eradicating the menace in the system.
He however acknowledged that efforts taken by the bodies had greatly reduced examination malpractice and urged them to liaise with security agencies to find factors promoting examination malpractice.
Professor Adamu disclosed that the National University Commission had discovered the existence of over 70 illegal universities, stressing that the effected universities will soon be closed.
